Lata Mangeshkar, who didn’t like to appear on music reality shows, had given away the trophy on grand finale of Voice of India in 2008. Producer Gajendra Singh recalled how he had to pursue her for 10 years for it.
Lata Mangeshkar passed away today, February 6, at the age of 92. The legendary singer had said that she wasn’t pleased with the quality of music reality shows. However, she appeared on the grand finale of Voice of India in 2008 and gave away the trophy. Producer Gajendra Singh recalled how he had to pursue her for 10 years for it.
Celebrities including Deepika Padukone, Priyanka Chopra, Akshay Kumar, Abhishek Bachchan, among others, mourned Lata Mangeshkar’s death and paid heartfelt tributes. Producer Gajendra Singh remembered the legendary singer and talked about her appearance of his show, Voice of India, in 2008. He had to keep pursuing Lata Mangeshkar for 10 years before she said yes.
Gajendra Singh told the Times of India, "Lata Didi agreed to appear on our show Voice of India after convincing her for almost 10 years. I used to regularly invite her and call her to make an appearance on our shows but she never agreed. Finally, her sister Usha Mangeshkar helped me convince her and she appeared in the finale episode to give away the trophy."
Gajendra Singh revealed how he convinced Lata Mangeshkar to make an appearance on the show finally. He said, "Lata Didi told me that she agreed to come on the show because of the talent on the show. She had enjoyed listening to the young contestants and felt they were extremely talented and needed to be motivated. She told me that she agreed to be on the show only because the talent was exceptionally bright. We were extremely happy and after that, she never again made an appearance on any other reality show."
