PDP president Mehbooba Mufti slammed Jammu and Kashmir's Chief Electoral Officer’s announcement of giving voting rights to non-locals and said that this is “the last nail in the coffin of electoral democracy.”
PDP president Mehbooba Mufti has hit out at Jammu and Kashmir's Chief Electoral Officer’s announcement of giving voting rights to non-locals.
She said, “This is last nail in the coffin of electoral democracy. A Muslim majority state chose India because they wanted to be part of secular India. But people have lost confidence in voting. Everything is happening in BJP's interest.”
In a major decision, Jammu and Kashmir's Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Hirdesh Kumar had announced that non-locals, including employees, students, labourers or anyone from outside who is living ordinarily in Jammu and Kashmir, can register their names in the voting list, and vote in the J&K elections.
The PDP president further added that Jammu and Kashmir has become a “laboratory for the BJP.”
“It is BJP plot in the name of national interest. They are indirectly ruling the valley from the last three years. Now they are planning to bring some fascist people from the back door to rule the valley again,” added Mufti.
