The fire broke out shortly after 4 a.m. in the area of Rutherford Road and Highway 27.
Roughly 30 to 40 unoccupied residences have caught fire, York Regional Police told CP24.
Deputy chief Grant Moffatt, of Vaughan Fire, said that they received the first calls for a fire at that location at 4:12 a.m.
He noted that wind posed a posed a problem for crews upon arrival, which caused the fire to spread quickly to unoccupied residences nearby.
There were also reports of explosions "possibly from propane cylingers on site," Vaughan Fire said.
And while there are no reports of inuries, an aerial fire truck valued at $1 million has been lost.
