Protesters set fire to Sri Lankan Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe's private residence on Saturday, amid a massive public protest in the country over the unprecedented economic crisis.
The prime minister of Sri Lanka’s official residence has been set on fire during mass protests over the country’s severe economic crisis, just hours after he announced his resignation.
Tens of thousands of demonstrators breached police barricades to storm the presidential palace in Colombo on Saturday, with Ranil Wickremesinghe announcing he would step down as PM shortly afterwards.

Unrest between demonstrators and police intensified outside the prime minister’s residence in the capital in the hours that followed. Footage also appeared to show flames and smoke emanating from the compound.
