Landlord thrashes migrant workers over rent dues of others who left in lockdown

On May 16, landlord Suresh Raj entered the room of the migran workers and started beating them up over the rent dues of their coworkers who had left during the lockdown.

Sanjay, Prakash, Prakash Pal, Nirmal Prabha and Pradeep Jana are all migrant workers from Odisha living in a rented house at Kundrathur, in the suburbs of Chennai. A few days ago, they were attacked by their landlord over the rent dues of those workers who had left in the lockdown. On May 16, landlord Suresh Raj entered their room and told them that several of their coworkers had left during the lockdown without paying rent dues upto Rs 2.85 lakh. The group was shocked and before they could react, Suresh Raj took a plastic pipe and began to thrash the migrant workers, holding them responsible for his losses. He also allegedly threatened that the workers cannot leave without paying him the money.
