A delegation from the Bharatiya Kisan Union, under the banner of United Kisan Morcha, will reach Lakhimpur Kheri on May 5 along with thousands of farmers to "ensure justice" to victims of last year's incident.
Once again, thousands of farmers will gather in UP's Lakhimpur Kheri to demand justice for last year's incident in which eight people lost their lives. On October 3 last year, four farmers were mowed down by an SUV in Lakhimpur Kheri when a group agitating against the Centre's three farm laws was staging a demonstration against the visit of Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya. Besides, two BJP workers, a driver in the employ of Lakhimpur MP Ajay Misra, and a journalist were killed in the ensuing violence.
The Bharatiya Kisan Union has decided to fight for justice for the farmers who were killed in last year's incident. A delegation from the union, under the banner of United Kisan Morcha, will reach Lakhimpur Kheri on May 5 along with thousands of farmers from four states to ensure justice, announced Harinder Singh Lakhowal, General Secretary of the Bharatiya Kisan Union (Punjab).
He said that the delegation will also meet the families of victims on May 5.
The SUV that crushed the farmers belonged to Ajay Misra's son, Ashish Misra, who was arrested by the police in the case. In February, the Allahabad High Court granted bail to Ashish. However, in April, the Supreme Court rejected the HC's order and cancelled his bail. Ashish surrendered before the court on April 24, following the order by SC.
