Union minister Ajay Mishra's son Ashish Mishra has approached the Supreme court challenging an order of the Allahabad High Court order, which denied him bail for his alleged involvement in the Lakhimpur Kheri case.
A case of murder was registered against Ashish Mishra after four farmers were killed in Lakhimpur Kheri when an SUV, in which he was reportedly travelling, ran over them on October 3 last year.
Initially, in February this year, the Allahabad High Court granted bail to Mishra, forcing the kin of the deceased farmers to approach the Supreme Court. On April 18, the apex court cancelled the bail granted to Ashish Mishra and pulled up the Allahabad High Court for refusing to hear the victims of the case before granting Mishra relief.
The Supreme Court also sent the matter back to the Allahabad High Court for fresh consideration into the case.
While dismissing Mishra’s plea on July 26, the Allahabad High Court had said that according to the evidence present in the records, Mishra could not be granted bail as he was politically so influential that he could influence witnesses and affect the trial.
