“He [Lakhbir Singh] could never target Guru Granth Sahib or Nihangs. We feel there was someone who was luring him or provoking him to do such things in lieu of money,” said Sukhchen Singh, brother-in-law of Lakhbir Singh.
Following the alleged murder of Lakhbir Singh by a group of Nihangs at the farmers' protest site in the Singhu border region on Friday, family members of the deceased man claimed that there was a “conspiracy" behind his murder. They further claimed that Lakhbir Singh could never insult holy scriptures.
The mutilated body of Lakhbir Singh, a 35-year-old Dalit man from Cheema Kalan village of Tarn Taran in Punjab, was found on Friday morning. One of his hands and legs were chopped off, and he was tied to a metal barricade when the locals first spotted him.
