Laal Singh Chaddha is among the slew of Bollywood films that flopped this year. Aamir Khan made his comeback to the silver screen after four years with this film.
It's not been a good year for Bollywood. Hopes for a strong post-pandemic recovery are dissipating without the industry having produced any major box office hits yet. Joining the slew of Bollywood flops of 2022 is Aamir Khan's Laal Singh Chaddha. The actor made his comeback to the big screens after four years with the film. However, his comeback film has failed to impress his fans and it is quite evident in its box office numbers. On Day 15 as well, the Forrest Gump remake hardly added any money to its total box office collection.
Laal Singh Chaddha opened with low numbers on Day 1 at the box office. After a break of four years, Aamir Khan surely would have expected better theatrical prospects, however that does not seem to be the case. Compared to its Rs 180 crore budget, the film does not seem to be able to revive it. It has also been one of the victims of the cancel culture as calls for its boycott has been trending since weeks. This had an affect in its box office collections. According to early trade reports, the film hardly earned Rs 0.55 crore on Day 15, August 24. Hence, the total collection would now stand at an approx of Rs 58.73 crore. Meanwhile, Laal Singh Chaddha had an overall 7.52 per cent Hindi Occupancy on August 25.
2022 saw a major loss for Bollywood as films failed to leave a mark one-by-one. Shamshera, starring Ranbir Kapoor crashed, at the register. He isn't the only big star with a flop. Ranveer Singh (Jayeshbhai Jordaar), Akshay Kumar (Samrat Prithviraj) and Ajay Devgn (Runway 34) also failed to get audiences back to the cinemas. Other Bollywood films that flopped in 2022 are Attack: Part 1, Jersey, Heropanti 2, Dhaakad, Anek, Rashtra Kavach Om, Raksha Bandhan and Dobaaraa, among others.
Directed by Advait Chandan, Laal Singh Chaddha is the official remake of the Hollywood film, Forrest Gump, which featured Tom Hanks. The Hindi adaptation features Kareena Kapoor Khan, Naga Chaitanya and Mona Singh in crucial roles. Even before its release, Laal Singh Chaddha made headlines due to multiple controversies. Netizens called for a boycott of the film over statements made by Aamir and Kareena in the past. The two stars requested fans not to boycott Laal Singh Chaddha and asked them to watch the film in theatres.
