Tamil Nadu CM M.K. Stalin mourns the loss of former Tamil Congress chief Kumari Ananthan, praising his contributions to Tamil.
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin on Wednesday (April 9, 2025) expressed grief at the demise of Kumari Ananthan, former Tamil Congress chief.
“Mr. Kumari Ananthan surrendered himself to the Congress. His demise is a big loss to the Tamil community,” Mr. Stalin said in a statement.
Mr. Ananthan was elected as Member of Parliament once and was a four-time Member of Legislative Assembly. He established the rights of speaking in Tamil in parliament and that pride is attributed to him, he said.
Last year, the State government presented the ‘Thagaisal Thamizhar’ Award to Mr. Ananthan, honouring his life and contribution to Tamil, Mr. Stalin said.
“I remember with tears the conversation I had with Mr. Ananthan, when I presented the Award on Independence Day,” he recalled.
“I console myself that Mr. Ananathan would remain in our hearts forever through his Tamil in numerous books and stage speeches,” Mr. Stalin said.
Mr. Stalin extended his condolences to Ananthan’s daughter Tamilisai Soundararajan and to relatives and family members and Congress cadres and the literary world and others.
