Kolkata Police raided three locations in Jharkhand’s Ranchi on Thursday, August 4, in connection with the arrest of advocate Rajiv Kumar. During the raids, black diaries were discovered that contained details of cash transactions.
Chats and digital evidence suggested that there was a discussion regarding money with those who were doing Public Interest Litigations (PILs). Documents recovered showed that Kumar had purchased a seven-acre farmhouse recently, located 30 km away from Ranchi.
Documents also stated that Kumar has 16 flats in Ranchi apart from his three-storied house. He also has flats in Noida and an office in Greater Kailash.
Kolkata Police arrested Rajiv Kumar on Sunday, July 31, while he received Rs 50 lakh from a Kolkata-based businessman.
According to the police, Kumar had filed a PIL in the Ranchi High court against a Kolkata-based businessman and was demanding Rs 10 crore to withdraw the PIL.
After multiple negotiations, the amount was reduced to Rs 1 crore. On Sunday night, July 31, he was caught red-handed while receiving the first instalment of Rs 50 lakh.
