A team of the anti-rowdy section of the detective department arrested a total of four people after conducting search operations at several places including Narkeldanga and Beleghata areas of Kolkata overnight. All arrested accused will be produced before the Bankshall Court today.
When Kolkata police stopped a BJP rally at Howrah Bridge, BJP workers became aggressive and the protest turned violent. Kolkata police fired tear gas when BJP workers started throwing stones.
During the protest, an Assistant Commissioner of Police Debjit Chatterjee, currently posted at Central division of Kolkata police, was brutally attacked by a mob from the rally. His hand was broken and is currently admitted at SSKM hospital.
Kolkata police claimed that at least 27 police personnel were seriously injured by the mob. Another police personnel is currently under treatment at ICU in CMRI hospital. One Kolkata police vehicle was also set on fire near a police station.
The Kolkata police lodged a total of six cases including attempt to murder case against the unknown accused in different police stations on Tuesday. The investigation charges were handed over to the detective department of Kolkata police instantly.
Police source said, they registered two separate cases in connection with Kolkata police ACP Debjit Chatterjee attack and the police vehicle that was set on fire during the rally. A case has been registered under Section 307 of the Indian Penal Code and multiple non-bailable sections. Several non-bailable cases have been filed against unknown accused for setting fire to police vehicles, destroying government property and obstructing police work.
