Shimron Hetmyer is enjoying one of his best seasons in the Indian Premier League with Rajasthan Royals. He is striking at 160, with an average of 58.25
Rajasthan Royals’ prime middle order import Shimron Hetmyer has said that his wife is his biggest coach as well as his harshest critic. Hetmyer, who has been in a rich vein of form this season, stated that he has taken his wife’s advice and has tried to take his time in the middle, instead of going hammer and tongs from ball one.
“It's about just giving myself the chance. For the first two years I didn't really give myself a chance the base to get set. This year and in the last year, I said to myself to give a chance to know what the conditions are doing before getting going. My wife has been my biggest coach and my harshest critic and she told me to give myself a couple of balls to judge what's happening and then take off,” revealed Hetmyer on Star Sports ahead of the game.
Speaking on what he has been learning at the new franchise, Hetmyer stated that he wants to pick up the reverse sweep from Jos Buttler. Buttler has had the reverse sweep in his repertoire for a while now, which allows him to access the off side in case he fails to get the ball into his arc. The Englishman has been in fantastic form this season raking up 566 runs from just nine matches.
“ I want to learn how to reverse-sweep from Jos Buttler. I am practising that in the nets but only getting hit. And the scoop also. When I am batting with him, he makes things easier. Thank god I am not a bowler bowling at the Wankhede, it's a good ground for batters,” Hetmyer said.
Shimron Hetmyer will be in action against KKR on Monday, 2nd May. He scored a rapid 26* against the Kolkata based franchise in the last game to provide Rajasthan a late surge while batting first. His innings came in clutch against the opposition as they won the game by a narrow margin of seven runs.
