KKR vs MI, IPL 2022: Mumbai Indians captain Rohit Sharma looks to get his side back to winning ways after a disappointing start to the tournament.
Mumbai Indians will take on Kolkata Knight Riders at the MCA Stadium, Pune, looking for their first win in IPL 2022. MI is the most decorated team in the competition, lifting the trophy five times, but started the 15th edition of IPL with two back-to-back disappointments against Delhi Capitals and Rajasthan Royals.
Mumbai Indians captain Rohit Sharma opened the tournament with a decent start, scoring 41 runs off 32 deliveries against Delhi, but could not build on it, as he was dismissed after scoring 10 off 5 against Rajasthan. The Hitman has been struggling to find his feet in the tournament this time round.
As the captain of the Indian team, Rohit Sharma’s recent record is not up to the mark either. He has not scored a fifty in his last nine innings. During the series against Sri Lanka, the skipper struggled against the moving ball and could only manage a total of 50 (44,1,5) in the 3 T20 matches.
In the Test series against Sri Lanka, Rohit Sharma could only manage to score a total of 90 (29,15,46) runs in three innings. He got only 66 runs (40,19,7) in the 3 T20 games against West Indies.
Kolkata Knight Riders have been Rohit Sharma’s favourite opponent in the IPL since its inception. The skipper is the only batsman to score over a thousand runs (1015) against a single opposition, scoring 6 half centuries and one century in the process. He scored 43 off 32 balls and 33 off 30 balls last year against KKR.
Rohit Sharma has struggled against Kolkata Knight Riders bowler Sunil Narine, who has dismissed him the most in the IPL, 7 times in 18 innings with an average of 19.6.
Mumbai Indians continue to battle with their batting woes as Suryakumar Yadav will not be rushed back from his finger injury. The franchise, in the last two games, have been highly reliant on Ishan Kishan and Rohit Sharma, but the skipper has not lived up to his expectations with the bat.
