The two-time champions were reduced to 31 for 5 by Deepak Chahar and Lungi Ngidi in the powerplay before Andre Russell, Dinesh Karthik and Pat Cummins brought them back in the match with valiant knocks. Russell started the recovery with his 22-ball 54 before Karthik and Cummins reignited their hopes, scoring 40 and 66 not out respectively. KKR eventually ran out of steam in the end due to the regular loss of wickets.
