IPL 2022: KKR captain Shreyas Iyer acknowledged that dew has been a cause of concern in the new season, saying the venues in Mumbai in latte evenings resemble a swimming pool. Iyer won the toss and had no doubts to opt to bowl first against Punjab Kings on Friday.
Kolkata Knight Riders' newly-appointed captain Shreyas Iyer on Friday pointed fingers at the persistent dew that has been a cause for concern in the new season of Indian Premier League. Iyer did not have any second thoughts aa he opted to bowl after winning the toss against Punjab Kings in Match 8 of IPL 2022.
6 out of the 7 matches so far have been won by teams bowling first as late evening dew has it made defending totals a nearly impossible task. Notably, PBKS themselves benefitted from batting second in their season opener against Royal Challengers Bangalore as they chased down a mammoth total of 206 with an over to spare.
The super soppers have been the busiest machines across all 4 venues in Mumbai and Pune as it's been difficult for bowlers to grip the ball once the dew settles in.
"We're going to bowl first. The reason is obviously the swimming pool that's visible in the evenings," Iyer cheekily said after winning the toss against PBKS on Friday.
Notably, Chennai Super Kings were on the receiving end of the dewy conditions at the Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai on Thursday. The defending champions lost to Lucknow Super Giants despite post 210 on the board.
With Quinton de Kock and Evin Lewis hitting rapid fifties, LSG chased down the target in just 19.3 overs. The Super Giants clinched their first win in the tournament during which they also registered the 4th highest successful chase in the history of IPL.
Speaking after CSK's defeat, their head coach likened the dew in Mumbai to Niagara waterfalls. CSK were able to use only 4 overs of spin on a dewy evening.
