KK's last unreleased song was for Srijit Mukherji's upcoming film, Sherdil: The Pilhibit Saga. In an exclusive conversation with IndiaToday.in, Srijit recalled his first meeting with KK and his plans of releasing the late singer's last track.
In April 2022, KK took to social media and shared photos from his first meeting with filmmaker Srijit Mukherji. The late singer lent his voice to a track from Srijit’s upcoming film, Sherdil: The Pilhibit Saga. It’s still unreleased. In fact, the track will be KK’s last song ever. In an exclusive conversation with IndiaToday.in, Srijit recalled his first meeting with KK, how it was like recording with him and what an unbelievable piece of information KK’s death was to him.
Hours back, filmmaker Srijit Mukherji shared a throwback video of KK from a recording studio. Gulzar looked smitten by KK as he sang Chhor Aaye Hum from 1996 film Machhis. KK and Srijit collaborated for the first time for an unreleased track from the latter’s upcoming film, Sherdil: The Pilhibit Saga. Speaking to IndiaToday.in, Srijit told us about the first time he met KK and the unreleased track from his film. He said, “The song is very special. It’s written by Gulzar saab and sung by KK. And it is possibly going to be his last song for a film at least.”
Srijit further added, “I was telling him also that we are meeting for the first time. Your [KK's] voice has been through a lots of ups and downs in my life. The songs that you have sung, be it that of heartbreak, be it that of friendship, be it that of general philosophy, I have been friends with your voice for a very long time. He was laughing and telling me that ‘No, you are very kind’ and the extremely modest, humble and down-to-earth person that he is. Sorry, I am still referring to him as is. He was. It’s unbelievable. I am still in a state of partial shock, though I have recovered from last night. Last night was really bad. But it’s unbelievable still. You don’t measure an artiste by the songs. You measure him by the impact of his songs. Today, almost every message on my timeline is about KK. The last time it happened was when Irrfan passed away. That’s how artistes touch your life.”
Srijit Mukherji also spoke about the person KK was. The filmmaker said, “Out of that everyone, there is a little percentage who personally knew him. He was, I believe, a very shy and not a very all over the media kind of a celeb. His singing did all the talking.” He further added, “Gulzar saab is so fond of him and that collaboration has come out so well. I am dying to release and share the song. It will be out soon.”
KK passed away on May 31, post his live performance in Kolkata.
