Kisan Morcha’s yes for ‘Mission UP’, but no to ‘Mission Punjab’?
India Today
There is a clear dichotomy in the Samyukt Kisan Morcha’s (SKM) stand when it comes to the upcoming elections in Uttar Pradesh and Punjab. While the SKM will launch its ‘Mission UP’ on September 5 in yet another mahapanchayat in Muzaffarnagar, the farm leaders’ position on the Punjab poll is contradictory.
The farmers’ agitation -- against the three controversial farm laws -- has completed nine months. And the Samyukt Kisan Morcha (SKM) is desperately looking for new methods to mount pressure on the political establishments. The best chance that they see is the upcoming state assembly elections. The SKM leadership has the strongest clout in Punjab, Haryana, and Uttar Pradesh. Punjab and UP would go for assembly polls in less than six months. However, the dichotomy in the Kisan Morcha’s stand when it comes to the two assembly polls is evident. While the agitating farmers’ organisations are all set to launch their ‘Mission UP’ next week in Western UP’s Muzaffarnagar, their stance on Punjab is just the opposite.More Related News
