The start of the first Test between South Africa and Bangladesh was delayed due to a malfunctioning sight-screen at Durban's Kingsmead on Thursday. South Africa are without a few of their Test regulars as they chose to play the IPL over this two-Test series. Bangladesh, on the other hand, will be confident after their historic ODI series win a few days ago.
South Africa vs Bangladesh 1st Test, Day 1 match started at 10:35 am, 35 minutes after the scheduled start due to a sightscreen issue. The ground staff put together white clothes to cover up the faulty electronic screens as the play began from Umgeni End at Kingsmead.
The players left the ground shortly afterward, and the broadcasters also cut the live feed while the ground staff tried to solve the problem.
Bangladesh have lost all six Tests on three previous tours of South Africa and Kingsmead is an unknown factor for the current players, with Bangladesh having only once at the ground when they lost to Canada in the 2003 Cricket World Cup.
Meanwhile, the visitors won the toss and opted to bowl first. The Bangladesh skipper has seen a bit of grass on the deck and wants to make full use of it.
This is the first Test in Durban since February 2019, when Sri Lanka pulled off a one-wicket win over the hosts.
