Actor Chadwick Boseman passed away in 2020 after battling colon cancer. The news came as a shock to fans around the globe. Black Panther producer Kevin Feige recently revealed why they never considered recasting the late actor’s role in the much-loved franchise. He stated that they wanted to honour Chadwick’s memory in the follow-up movies rather than recasting his character. In Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, the teaser trailer begins with the producers and the makers honouring the late actor's legacy. He was 43 when he passed away.
In the new Black Panther movie, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, additional information about T’Challa (character played by Chadwick Boseman) will be explored. Shuri (played by Letitia Wright) and the leaders of the Wakanda will be seen battling to defend their country after King T'Challa's passing.
About not recasting for the role, Kevin told The Empire, “It just felt like it was much too soon to recast. Stan Lee always said that Marvel represents the world outside your window. And we had talked about how, as extraordinary, and fantastical as our characters and stories are, there’s a relatable and human element to everything we do. And Ryan poured that into the story.”
For those unaware, Black Panther, released in 2018, and is the first superhero movie to receive an Academy Award nomination for best picture. Chadwick’s performance was hailed in the movie.
Black Panther: Wakanda Forever has been directed by Ryan Coogler and will feature Riri Williams (played by Dominique Thorne). Black Panther: Wakanda Forever will hit theatres on November 11, 2022.
