Former Washington Football team defensive end Ryan Kerrigan agreed to terms on a one-year contract with the NFC East rival Philadelphia Eagles yesterday. Financial terms were not disclosed by the Eagles. “We’re pleased to add a player and person of Ryan’s calibre to our team,” Eagles general manager Howie Roseman said. “For the last 10 seasons, we’ve seen firsthand how Ryan can affect a game on the field and we know that adding a veteran presence to our locker room can only benefit our young players. “Ryan is excited to show Eagles fans he’s got plenty left in his game and we look forward to seeing him do just that this season.” Kerrigan made his introduction to Philadelphia fans and his farewell to Washington enthusiasts in separate Instagram posts yesterday. “I know I probably wasn’t your favourite player over the past decade, but Philadelphia Eagles fans I’m fired up to be playing for you guys now!” Kerrigan wrote. Kerrigan, who is Washington’s all-time sacks leader with 95.5, played in 156 games (141 starts) in 10 years for the franchise. Washington selected Kerrigan with the No. 16 overall pick in the 2011 NFL Draft. “I’ll never be able to sum up what these past 10 years have meant to me in an Instagram post, but what I can say is that they have been some of the best of my life,” Kerrigan wrote in a separate Instagram post. “I hope you had as much fun watching me as I did playing for you. Thank you, Washington, for everything.” Kerrigan, 32, appeared in all 16 games during nine of his 10 seasons with Washington. Last season, however, he started just one game and finished with 5.5 sacks and 17 tackles. The four-time Pro Bowl selection saw his playing time dip in 2020 with the emergence of Defensive Rookie of the Year Chase Young and 2019 first-rounder Montez Sweat. REPORT: LEE TO SIGN WITH 49ERS The San Francisco 49ers are signing free-agent wide receiver Marqise Lee after a weekend tryout, NFL Network reported yesterday. A corresponding move would need to be made by the 49ers as they’re at the 90-player limit. Lee, 29, hasn’t played since the 2019 season after spending five seasons with the Jacksonville Jaguars. He played in just six games in 2019, recording three catches for 18 yards for the Jags before another knee injury cut short that season. Lee opted out of the 2020 season after signing a one-year deal with the New England Patriots last year. The Pats cut him in March. Lee has 174 receptions for 2,184 yards and eight touchdowns in 59 games (30 starts) for the Jags. He played a full 16 games just once, in 2016. Lee missed the entire 2018 season after tearing his ACL in a preseason game. The Jags selected Lee in the second round of the 2014 draft out of Southern Cal.PATRIOTS SIGNING REDMOND The New England Patriots are signing free agent offensive lineman Alex Redmond, NFL Network reported yesterday. The team is also re-signing guard/center James Ferentz, ESPN reported. Redmond, 26, played in 32 games (24 starts) for the Cincinnati Bengals over the last four seasons. He’s played in just 12 games over the past two seasons, however. Redmond worked out for the Patriots last week. He’s expected to provide depth at guard for New England. Ferentz, 31, is the son of Iowa coach Kirk Ferentz. The former has appeared in 24 games (four starts) with the Patriots since 2017. Bengals to sign wide receiver Taylor The Cincinnati Bengals are signing free agent wide receiver Trent Taylor, NFL Network reported Monday. Taylor, 27, was with the Bengals over the weekend during rookie minicamp for a tryout, wearing ex-Bengal A.J. Green’s old No. 18 jersey. The Bengals lost slot receiver and punt returner Alex Erickson to the Houston Texans in free agency, roles that can be filled by Taylor. Taylor has played in 41 games (two starts) over three seasons with the San Francisco 49ers. He has 79 career receptions for 731 yards and three touchdowns. The Niners selected Taylor in the fifth round of the 2017 NFL Draft.More Related News
