Kerala Assembly Speaker MB Rajesh will become minister. AN Shamseer will be appointed as the new assembly speaker.
Kerala Assembly Speaker MB Rajesh will become minister. Reorganisation in the cabinet was necessary after local and excise department minister MV Govindan resigned from the ministerial post after being appointed as the CPI (M) Kerala state secretary.
AN Shamseer, an MLA from Thalassery constituency in the Kannur district will be appointed as the new assembly speaker. On Friday, CPI (M) state secretariat has taken the decision on this.
At the same time, the final decision has not been made on whether MB Rajesh will handle the same departments that were handled by MV Govindan.
MB Rajesh, an MLA from Trithala constituency in Palakkad district. MB Rajesh was a member of Lok Sabha from the Palakkad constituency in 2009 and 2014. In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, he lost to Congress candidate VK Sreekandan. In 2021, he defeated VT Balram of the Congress as a maiden member of the Assembly.
AN Shamseer, who is a CPI(M) state committee member, is entering the assembly for the second time.
The CPI (M) Secretariat meeting also decided not to appoint a new minister in place of Saji Cherian, who resigned for criticising the Indian Constitution. The departments handled by Saji Cherian are currently handled by ministers V Abdurahiman, VN Vasavan and PA Mohammad Riaz.
The reorganisation of the party and the cabinet became necessary after Kodiyeri Balakrishnan resigned from the post of CPI (M) state secretary due to health problems.
