The state government had on Monday announced that Idukki dam, built across the Periyar river, Idamalayar in Ernakulam and Pampa dam, in Pathanamthitta, were going to be opened on Tuesday.

The shutter of Kerala's Idukki dam also opened today after the catchment area received heavy rainfall. At present, one lakh litres of water is being pumped out every second. A high alert has been issued for areas along the banks of Periyar river.
