On Tuesday, prime accused in the Kerala gold smuggling case Swapna Suresh alleged that Kerala CM Pinarayi Vijayan had smuggled currency during visits to Dubai in 2016.
Swapna Suresh, prime accused in the Thiruvananthapuram gold smuggling case, alleged on Tuesday that Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan smuggled currency during his visits to Dubai in 2016.
She added that former principal secretary to the chief minister M Sivasankar played a key role in the alleged currency smuggling.
"At that time I was working at the UAE Consulate in Thiruvananthapuram. Former principal secretary M Shivashankar told me that the chief minister had forgotten a bag and that it should be delivered as soon as possible. And M Shivashankar called directly for baggage clearance. The bag was handed over to the diplomat at the UAE Consulate. There was currency in it. The bag was scanned at a scanning machine at the consulate. That’s how I realised it was currency. That's how it all started,” Swapna Suresh said.
“As per M Shivashankar's instructions, on several occasions, biryani vessels have been handed over to Kerala CM’s official residence Cliff House from the Consul General's house. It contained not only biryani but also some metal objects,” she added.
Swapna Suresh said that the CM, his wife, daughter, former principal secretary M Shivashankar among others were involved in the smuggling.
She made these statements while addressing the media after having made a confidential statement in court in a money laundering case related to gold smuggling.
