Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan sided with senior IAS officer M Sivasankar who penned a book on his version of events in the gold smuggling case.
The chief minister said that when an individual expresses the difficulties they faced, it is natural that those blamed would respond in a revengeful manner. He further slammed the media saying it is 'extra eager' in this case.
Senior IAS officer M Sivasankar, who is an accused in the Kerala gold smuggling case penned an autobiographical book narrating his version of events.
CM Pinarayi Vijayan's former principal secretary attempts to tell the readers how central investigation agencies and mainstream media tried to picture him as a major stakeholder in the gold smuggling done through a diplomatic channel.
According to excerpts from the book, the senior bureaucrat who was arrested in the case in 2020 has rejected all the charges levelled against him by the central agencies.
"Whether the book required permission is an entirely different matter. It is purely technical and we will look into it," CM Vijayan said.
Incidentally, action was taken against other senior civil service officers for writing books while in service.
