India Today
The opposition UDF staged a protest in the Kerala assembly on Friday, using placards. The protest was to condemn the police brutality against K-Rail protestors. Male police officers allegedly manhandled female protestors in Madappally on Thursday.
The opposition party in Kerala, the United Democratic Front (UDF), held a protest in the assembly on Friday, March 18. The protest was a result of the police brutality against K-Rail protests in Changanacherry on Thursday.
Opposition leader VD Satheesan said that the police are hunting the public in the name of K-Rail. The opposition raised placards and stepped down to the centre of the assembly.
The speaker responded saying that it's against the rules of the assembly to use placards and banners inside. He also said that disrupting the question hour was not acceptable. However, the opposition refused to back down and return to their seats.
Meanwhile, a few of the stones were laid for the K-Rail project on Thursday despite the massive protests. However, they were found removed and displaced.
The police brutality incident happened on Thursday, when male police officers manhandled female protestors in Madappally.
A strike is underway in Changanacherry, protesting against the police action. In Madappally, where the incident happened, the strike was complete and most of the shops were shut.
