In the September 13 episode of Kaun Banega Crorepati 14 contestant Jyotirmayee Mallick took the hot seat after winning the fastest finger round. She is an Assistant Superintendent of Post. Her husband is the Assistant Superintendent of the Post Office. This made Big B recall the handwritten letter days. He also revealed that his dad and famous poet Harivansh Rai Bachchan used to write letters to his fans and friends.
During the episode, Amitabh Bachchan said, “In our era, the postman was our hero because he/she was the only one who used to be our source of communication. He only used to bring letters to our houses. We used to respect them a lot and thought of them as proprietary.” Jyotirmayee said that letters have been decreasing so they have started with letter competition and other writing competition for the people.
To this, Big B said, “It's true when you open the letter you get dry petals or rose petals kept in the letters, that kept the charm going.” He further adds “ My father used to write a lot of letters to his fans and friends. Every day he used to write 50 to 100 letters, he would answer each and every person's letter on his own. He used to write on small postcards and then would fold them properly and give the postcard in the post all by himself. When I used to ask him why he is going again to the post office, he would say 'I am going to see if the card was sent or not'.”
KBC 14 premiered on Sunday, August 7. The first episode witnessed Big B welcoming eminent celebrities, who took over the hotseat and played the game. Those who graced the show as special guests included Aamir Khan, sports icons like Mary Kom and Sunil Chhetri, along with India's first Blade Runner, Major DP Singh, and Mithali Madhumita, the first female officer to win the Gallantry Award.
