Uddhav Thackeray's statement comes at a time when Jammu and Kashmir is witnessing an alarming rise in cases of targetted killings across the Union Territory.
Maharashtra will back Kashmiri Pandits and will do whatever it takes for them, Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray said in a release. The statement comes at a time when Jammu and Kashmir is witnessing a rise in cases of targetted killings across the Union Territory.
“We won't abandon them. Maharashtra will back the Kashmiri Pandits. We will provide all possible help,” he announced. Since May 1, at least eight civilians have been killed in targetted attacks by terrorists in the Valley.
“Kashmiri Pandits are leaving the Valley because of the targetted killings. They were shown dreams of homecoming but they are being killed now,” the Shiv Sena chief said in an oblique attack on the ruling BJP, which was once its ally in the state. They had a fallout after the 2019 Maharashtra elections over the chief ministerial candidate in the state, following which the Shiv Sena entered into an alliance with the NCP and the Congress.

Kashmiri Pandits have been protesting, seeking better security in Kashmir with government employees demanding a transfer to Jammu.
“In 1995, Bal Thackeray and then state government gave reservations in education to Kashmiri Pandits. We have been in touch with leaders of Kashmiri Pandits and as the chief minister of Maharashtra, I will do whatever is possible to help them,” Thackeray assured.
On Friday, Home Minister Amit Shah chaired a high-level meeting to take stock of the security situation in the Union Territory in the wake of a string of attacks targeting the Kashmiri Pandit community and migrant workers.
