Nikhil Siddhartha's Karthikeya 2 crushed Aamir Khan-starrer Laal Singh Chaddha. The Telugu film witnessed good growth as compared to LSC.
Aamir Khan’s Laal Singh Chaddha was one of the most anticipated films of 2022. The film opened to ‘not so great reviews’ and in less than a week, was considered a box office dud. The film clashed with Akshay Kumar’s Raksha Bandhan at the box office but both went to become flops. Now, Nikhil Siddhartha's Karthikeya 2 released on August 13 and went on to eat Laal Singh Chaddha's business. The Telugu film made more money on Tuesday than Aamir’s film.
Karthikeya 2, starring Nikhil Siddhartha, has gone on to become a hit. The film released a day after Aamir Khan’s Laal Singh Chaddha and gave it tough competition. As per the initial figures that came on Tuesday, Karthikeya 2 made a business of Rs 3.50 crore, which is more than Aamir's film. Made on a budget of Rs 30 crore, Karthikeya 2 has been successful in earning Rs 21.62 crore on Day 4.
Laal Singh Chaddha, on the other hand, earned a meagre Rs 2 crore on Tuesday. The film barely managed to cross the Rs 50 crore mark on Day 6. The film saw a 25 per cent drop in collections on Day 8 and collected Rs 1.5-1.75 crore. According to a report by Box Office India, Laal Singh Chaddha may witness a total collection of Rs 63.2 crore, which is critical for an Aamir Khan film.
Karthikeya is a standalone sequel to the 2014 hit of the same name. It is directed by Chandoo Mondeti and was his first theatrical release after the commercially unsuccessful Savyasachi (2018). The cast includes Nikhil Siddhartha, Anupama Parameswaran, Anupam Kher, Srinivasa Reddy, and Adithya Menon, among others. Karthikeya 2 is produced by Abhishek Agarwal and TG Vishwa Prasad. Anupama could not promote the film due to other commitments.
Directed by Advait Chandan, Laal Singh Chaddha is the official remake of the Hollywood film, Forrest Gump, which featured Tom Hanks. The Hindi adaptation stars Kareena Kapoor Khan, Naga Chaitanya and Mona Singh in crucial roles. Even before its release, Laal Singh Chaddha made headlines due to multiple controversies. Netizens called for a boycott of the film over statements made by Aamir and Kareena in the past. The two stars requested fans not to boycott Laal Singh Chaddha and asked them to watch the film in theatres.
