Karthikeya 2 actor Nikhil Siddhartha speaks about RRR not being nominated for Oscars, in an exclusive chat with IndiaToday.in. The Gujarati film Last Film Show is India’s official entry for the Oscars 2023.
India’s official entry at the Oscars 2023 is the Gujarati film Last Film Show. The decision to send Chhello Show as the official Indian entry at the Academy Awards has upset fans of SS Rajamouli’s RRR, who were rooting for the film to get representation at the award ceremony next year. There has been online outrage on social media with fans demanding that RRR get its due.
While fans of RRR are upset that Jr NTR and Ram Charan's film missed out on the international film category nomination, Karthikeya 2 actor Nikhil Siddhartha has a different opinion. In an exclusive conversation with IndiaToday.in, Nikhil spoke about his thoughts on why RRR doesn't need validation from the West. Nikhil said, “I am sorry, but I am of a different opinion. Everybody loves the Oscars, but the biggest achievement of the film is the love and appreciation they have received from people. That is the biggest award.”
He added, “People have showered love on RRR and that is a big win for the film. So, why do we need the Oscars? When we have Filmfare and when we have our own awards, the National awards, I do not give that much importance to the Oscars, I am sorry. Why do we need a certificate from the Oscars? Our films are amazing. Indian films are rocking. I was watching RRR in Spain. I was shooting there and the theatre was houseful. Spanish people were there, watching the film and coming back again. So, we don’t need any certificates from the Oscars.”
Nikhil’s Karthikeya 2, which released in August, made news as it emerged as a box office success against two big Bollywood films - Aamir Khan’s Laal Singh Chaddha and Akshay Kumar’s Raksha Bandhan. Nikhil also confirmed to IndiaToday.in that plans to make Karthikeya 3 are on and that the film will be made in 3D.
