Karthi essays the role of Vanthiyathevan, who is a prince, spy and an adventurer in Mani Ratnam's Ponniyin Selvan. His first-look poster was unveiled today, July 5.

Karthi is all thrilled about his upcoming film, Ponniyin Selvan: Part 1, directed by Mani Ratnam. He plays the role of Vanthiyathevan, who is a spy of Chola king Aditya Karikalan and his family. On July 5, the makers of Ponniyin Selvan shared the first-look poster of Karthi. Director Mani Ratnam earlier reported that Ponniyin Selvan will release in two parts. The first part of the film will hit the theatres on September 30.

On July 4, Chiyaan Vikram's first-look poster as Aditya Karikalan was unveiled. Throughout this week, the makers of Ponniyin Selvan will introduce the pivotal characters in the film.

Today (July 5), Lyca Productions, the film's production house, shared the first-look poster of Karthi as Vanthiyathevan. They wrote, "The Prince without a kingdom, the spy, the swashbuckling adventurer...here comes Vanthiyathevan! #PS1 @madrastalkies_ #ManiRatnam (sic)."

Ponniyin Selvan is a film based on the novel of the same name, written by Kalki Krishnamoorthy. This has been Mani Ratnam's dream project that he has been trying to make for over a decade. The star-studded cast of Ponniyin Selvan includes Chiyaan Vikram, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Trisha, Karthi, Jayam Ravi, Jayaram, Prakash Raj, Lal and Sarathkumar in important roles. AR Rahman composed the music for this period drama.
