A Karnataka seer has warned of agitation against the government if it fails to revise the chapters on social reformer Basavanna.
A Karnataka seer has warned of state-wide agitation against the government if it fails to revise the 'misleading information' about social reformer Basavanna in revised school textbooks.
Sanehalli-based Taralabalu Branch Mutt Seer Panditaradhya Shivacharya Swamiji has written a letter to Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai in this regard.
In his letter, the seer urged the government to correct the mistakes about Basavanna in the revised class 9 textbook or continue with the old textbook.
The seer claimed that a few sections of Basavanna's teachings were deliberately edited and some left out. The seer said in the textbook it is written: Vachana poets reformed Veerashaiva religion.
According to the seer, the information is and instead it was Basavanna who introduced the Lingayat religion. The seer claimed that the following paragraph was also omitted in the revised textbooks:
"During the mid century, Basavanna was among reformers who bought peace and changes in society. Basavanna taught people the simple Veera Shiva style of living and how to give up the vedic style. Basavanna was against the caste system."
