The main accused behind the Karnataka PSI recruitment scam, BJP leader Divya Hagaragi, was arrested by the Karnataka CB-CID from Pune along with 4 others. They will be brought back to Karnataka. The government has decided to cancel the examination and conduct fresh tests again.
The Karnataka Crime Branch-Crime Investigation Department (CB-CID) arrested five people in connection with the Police Sub-Inspector (PSI) recruitment scam. The five, including the main accused, BJP leader Divya Hagaragi, were arrested in Pune.
Karnataka Home Minister Araga Jnanendra said, “We have arrested Divya and Archana, Saddam (driver), Suresh Kalidas (assistant) and Sunanda (maid). All of them were arrested in Pune by the CID. The investigation is on and they will be brought to Karnataka.”
“There have also been allegations that more than one exam centre was involved in the PSI recruitment scam. As a result, the government has decided to cancel the whole exam that was conducted,” said the home minister.
He further added, “54, 289 candidates had taken up the exams. They'll be given another exam. This is apart from the accused candidates. The rest can take up the new exam.”
Earlier, the CB-CID arrested seven people in Karnataka who are accused of running a recruitment scam.
The written examination was conducted on October 3, 2021 at 92 centres in the state. After the results were announced, some discrepancies were reported and therefore an internal enquiry was conducted.
Once credible evidence was discovered about certain malpractices, the Home Minister, on April 7, ordered the CID to investigate the entire recruitment process and alleged malpractices. Accordingly, an FIR was registered on April 9.
