A tomato trader from Karnataka's Kolar was robbed of Rs 35 lakh cash and jewellery worth Rs 20 lakh by some miscreants who posed as I-T officials.
Kolar police have launched an investigation against some accused who plotted a crime and fled away with Rs 35 lakh cash and jewellery worth Rs 20 lakh from the house of a tomato trader, after posing themselves as Income Tax (I-T) Department officials. The conmen reportedly arrived in a multi-utility vehicle and said they had orders to search the house, introducing themselves as I-T officials.
The miscreants arrived at the house of a tomato trader and former APMC President Ramesh and looted the house, reported the Times of India (TOI). The incident was reported from the Byre Gowda Extension area of Kolar town at around 8.15 pm. Ramesh is a tomato trader and also runs a chit fund business.
Ramesh did not suspect any foul play and allowed them to enter the house by opening the grilled door on the first floor of the house, paving the path for them.
When the family of Ramesh questioned the identity of the six men, the conmen reportedly showed them some files with imprints of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). The men asked Ramesh and his wife to show them where they had kept money and valuables in the house, and thinking it was a part of a search operation, the victim showed them the desired place.
However, Ramesh got suspicious when the miscreants were packing the bag and asked them about the absence of police.
On being asked about the police, the miscreants threatened the victims with a sharp weapon and a knife and tied them up with ropes. They reportedly damaged the CCTV cameras before leaving the house. A police team immediately rushed to the spot and collected required information from Ramesh and his family.
Ramesh had reportedly bought Rs 35 lakh cash from the office and had kept the money at home. Police suspect that someone aware of this development committed the crime.
