Karnataka hijab row: Keep the peace and let children study, says CM Bommai

The Karnataka HC is set to hear petitions regarding the hijab row today, February 8. CM Bommai has asked everyone involved to keep the peace and let the children study.
Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai on Tuesday, February 8, issued a statement on the ongoing hijab row in Udupi district. He said, “All the concerned people (in the Udupi hijab row) should keep the peace & let children study.”
He added that the matter will be presented in the Karnataka High Court and that everyone should wait for their decision. The HC is set to hear about the hijab row today, February 8.
On Tuesday, a huge row broke out in Mahatma Gandhi Memorial (MGM) college in Karnataka’s Udupi district. Students wearing hijabs and students wearing saffron shawls protested against each other outside college.
Students were also heard chanting ‘Jai Shri Ram’ slogans. One of the students said, “They have been banned from wearing hijab but some of them came to the classroom wearing hijab. If they are wearing hijab, we will also wear saffron shawls."
Another student in a hijab asked, "We have been wearing this since childhood, how can they ask us to remove it now?
