High Court of Karnataka stays proceedings against actor Kolla Hema in drug case at rave party.
The High Court of Karnataka has stayed further proceedings against Telugu film actor Kolla Hema in the criminal case in which a chargesheet was filed against her and other accused persons for the supply and consumption of narcotic drugs at a rave party held near Electronics City in Bengaluru during May 2024.
Justice Hemant Chandangoudar passed the interim order on a petition filed by Ms. Hema, 52, who had questioned the chargesheet filed against her under the provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985. The interim order will be in force till the court takes up her petition for further hearing after four weeks.
The court stayed the proceedings by taking note of the submission of the actor’s advocate that the chargesheet was filed against her for the offences punishable under Section 27(b) [for consumption of any narcotic drug or psychotropic substance] of the NDPS Act based only on the confession statement of the co-accused and that there is no corroborative material to substantiate that she had consumed narcotic drug or psychotropic substance in the party.
The Central Crime Branch of Bengaluru city police had raided a rave party and booked cases against several men and women after they tested positive for the presence of narcotic drugs or psychotropic substances in their blood samples. In the case of Ms. Hema, it has been alleged in the chargesheet that she had consumed methylenedioxy-methamphetamine (MDMA), commonly known as ecstasy pills.
