High Court of Karnataka reserves verdict on bail petitions of actor Harshavadini Ranya Rao and Tarun Konduru Raju.
The High Court of Karnataka on Tuesday reserved its verdict on the petitions filed by actor Harshavadini Ranya Rao and her accomplice Tarun Konduru Raju, seeking their release on bail in the gold smuggling case.
Justice S. Vishwajith Shetty reserved the verdict on conclusion of the arguments.
Earlier, the advocate representing the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI), which is probing the gold smuggling case, had clarified to the court that the memo of arrest was served on Ranya’s husband along with the grounds of arrest, the necessity to arrest her, and other details. The DRI has denied the allegation made on behalf of Ranya that the memo of arrest was not served as per the law.
Meanwhile, to a query by the court whether the statement of Director General of Police K. Ramachandra Rao, Ranya’s stepfather, was recorded by the DRI in connection with the issue of providing protocol facility to Ranya at the airport, the counsel for DRI stated that the investigation is still going on.
However, the court wondered why the DRI has not yet recorded his statement, though a police constable had given a statement indicating that a protocol facility was given to Ranya on the instruction of DGP Rao.
