Udupi District Congress Committee protests NDA government policies, including price rise, Waqf Act, and ED actions, at Kaup.
The Udupi District Congress Committee organised a march and a meeting protesting against the ‘anti-people’ policies of the NDA government at the Centre, including price rise, Waqf (Amendment) Act, and ED action against Congress leaders in the National Herald case among others, at Kaup, on Thursday.
Hundreds of Youth Congress cadres and Congress leaders commenced the march from Lakshmi Janardhana Temple, which culminated in the town with a protest meeting. The Youth Congress cadres pulled a bullock cart as a symbol of protest against Central government-induced price rise.
Addressing the cadres, former minister Vinay Kumar Sorake alleged that the Central government was ‘sucking poor man’s blood’ by eliminating subsidies during the COVID-19 by introducing Goods and Services Tax and such other anti-people measures. The Central government distributes taxes collected in Karnataka to other States, he claimed.
Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee spokesperson Sudhir Kumar Murolli alleged that the April 22 Pahalgam massacre was a result of the Central government’s failure. Though the government was aware that thousands of tourists visit Pahalgam every day, it did not deploy adequate security forces in the region, thereby making it easy for terrorists to strike at will, he said.
Mr. Murolli said by enhancing taxes on every commodity, the Centre has triggered price rise of essential commodities. He said the gold price would reach ₹1.07 lakh per 10 gm by June 5 and vowed he would retire from public life if it does not happen.
Former Byndoor MLA K. Gopal Poojary, District Congress President Ashok Kumar Kodavoor, and others were present.
