Protesters began to pelt stones, brandish weapons and set vehicles ablaze. To ensure that the situation did not get out of hand, police had to resort to using tear gas to disperse the crowd.

2. A few incidents of arson and stone-pelting took place in Shivamogga after the murder. Bikes were torched and stones were pelted at houses and commercial establishments.
3. CM Basavaraj Bommai appealed for calm. He said, “ An investigation is on and those responsible for this will be arrested at the earliest. Police officials have been instructed to maintain law and order and I request people to also stay calm.”
4. While meeting to speak with the victim’s family, Karnataka Home Minister Araga Jnanendra said that it was not related to the ongoing hijab row. “But we need to wait for further investigations before arriving at a conclusion,” he said.
5. Karnataka minister Eshwarappa alleged that Muslim goons were involved in the murder and accused Congress’s DK Shivakumar of ‘provocating the Muslim goons’.
