
Karnataka: 6 people die after drinking contaminated water in Vijayanagara district

In Karnataka's Vijayanagara district, six people have reportedly died after consuming contaminated water, following which a high alert has been sounded by the district administration.
As many as six people reportedly died after consuming contaminated water in Makarabbi village in Huvinahadagali taluk of Vijayanagara district.
The deceased were identified as Lakshmamma, Basamma Havanooru, Neelappa Belavagi, Goneppa, Mahadevappa and Kenchamma, all from Makarabbi village. Officials said that as many as 200 people who fell sick after drinking contaminated water were being treated at hospitals in Ballari, Hospet, Hubballi and Haveri.The district administration has sounded a high-alert and has stationed two ambulances in the village to shift patients quickly to hospitals in case anyone develops symptoms of diarrhoea and vomiting.ALSO READ: Karnataka's 31st district, Vijayanagara, comes into beingA team of officers visited the village and collected three samples of water. Among these, two sample reports showed that the water is unfit to be used for drinking purposes. Action has been taken to close three bore-wells and a well in the village. Water is also being provided by tankers and an RO plant has been set up in the village.
