Days after Kapil Sibal said he has "no hope or expectations left from the Supreme Court", his son Akhil Sibal came out in support of his father and said that contempt can spread fear but will never restore confidence.
Senior advocate and Rajya Sabha MP Kapil Sibal’s son Akhil Sibal on Tuesday came out in support of his father’s remark on the Supreme Court and said that contempt can spread fear but will never restore confidence. Kapil Sibal had earlier said that he has no hope or expectations left from the Supreme Court.
Akhil Sibal took to Twitter to support his father’s statement and said, "The remedy against a negative perception of the Supreme Court lies in positive action, not in treating loss of faith as a thoughtcrime. Invoking contempt can spread fear, it will never restore confidence."

Speaking at an event in Delhi, Sibal had expressed his displeasure over some of the recent judgements passed by the Supreme Court, saying he has no hope left in the institution.
Sibal had said, "If you think you will get relief from the Supreme Court, you are hugely mistaken. I am saying this after completing 50 years of practice in the Supreme Court. You talk about progressive judgements delivered by the Supreme Court but there is a huge difference in what happens at the ground level. The Supreme Court gave judgement on privacy and Enforcement Directorate (ED) officers come to your home. Where is your privacy?"
