A lineman, who got electrocuted on February 27, succumbed to his injuries on Wednesday. The electricity worker had given a video statement before his death and accused his seniors of keeping the line running on the pole even after assuring him of taking a shutdown.
The relatives of the deceased have accused the officers of deliberately putting the lineman in the face of death.
Lakhan Dwivedi, who lived in the Barra area, was a lineman in the electricity department. On February 27, his engineers had mounted him on a pole to fix a fault.
According to the rules, the line should have been closed before fixing the fault, but at that time the line was not closed, due to which Lakhan got burnt and was taken to the hospital where he died on Wednesday, March 2.
Before succumbing to his injuries, Lakhan had given a video statement that his officers put him in the running line. He had asked them beforehand whether the line was shut down or not. The officers assured him that it was shut down.
Furious family members first blocked the powerhouse and then blocked the highway.
Senior police and other officials from the Kanpur Electricity Supply Company Ltd (KESCO) department reached the spot and tried to bring the situation under control but the anguished family members demanded strict action against the responsible official and a compensation of Rs 50 lakh.
