Kerala government launches K-Smart platform for digital services, aiming for social transformation and efficient governance.
The State government is working with the aim of using science and technology for social transformation and welfare of the people, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has said.
He was speaking after launching the government’s K-Smart (Kerala Solutions for Managing Administrative Reformation and Transformation) platform for digital delivery of services in three-tier panchayats at a function held here on Thursday (April 10, 2025). The platform has already been implemented in the urban local bodies across the State.
“The government is trying to transform Kerala into a knowledge economy as well as an innovative society by utilising the development of technology creatively along with enhancing the capacity of the youth. Governance becomes meaningful when everyone can equally experience its effectiveness. Services should be provided to people in a timely and transparent manner. In the past, people who went to offices with certain needs have had many bitter experiences. There have been some officials in many offices who were determined not to solve the legitimate needs of the people. The government has made a serious effort to change that culture, although much more needs to be done. Now, more than nine thousand services related to the state government have been made online,” said Mr. Vijayan.
He said that ever since the launch of K-Smart in urban local bodies on January 1, 2024, it has proved to be an efficient system. More than 33 lakh files were handled through the platform last year, out of which about 25 lakh files were disposed of. About five lakh files were processed by the employees of the local bodies working overtime and on holidays. About four lakh files were processed within six hours and about 10 lakh files in a day. With the launch of the platform in 941 grama panchayats, 152 block panchayats and 14 district panchayats, the public will no longer have to go directly to the offices for services of local bodies across Kerala, he said.
Minister for Local Self-Governments M.B. Rajesh presided over the function, in which Information Kerala Mission Chief Mission Director Santosh Babu and other officials were present. The live demonstration of the platform was shown at the venue with Mr. Rajesh downloading his building certificate through K-Smart. Marriage registration through video KYC and self certification for building permits for constructions below 3,200 square feet were also demonstrated.
