Ex-Ohio Gov. John Kasich (R) flagged how Donald Trump’s campaign is rolling with the “same format” as 2020 on Friday and predicted that Vice President Kamala Harris could win if the former president keeps singing a familiar tune.
“Because if this gets to be a battle between personality, his personality versus hers, he’s going to lose that,” said Kasich in an appearance on MSNBC. “If it’s a battle on ideology and records, he’s got a shot to win that.”
Kasich — a Trump critic who once battled him in the 2016 Republican primaries — argued that the former president is “so interested in all the cheers and everything” from his people, adding that he’s never thought politicians win elections if they just go to their base rather than reaching out to “other people.”
He told MSNBC’s Ryan Nobles, when asked if the Trump campaign has an opportunity to win the election by trying to appeal to “the middle of America,” that it “just makes total sense” to look beyond the GOP base.
“I mean, if all you’re trying to do is deal with your base, what about those undecided voters, particularly in these battleground states where the race is so close?” Kasich said.
