A video of Jodhpur police officers carrying the dead body of a man to a hospital in a garbage dumping vehicle is making rounds on social media.
A garbage collector who died in a road accident was allegedly carried in a garbage van to MDM Hospital by police officers in Rajasthan's Jodhpur, triggering anger and outrage. The video of police officers carrying the dead body of the victim in a garbage dumping van of the civic body is now going viral on social media.
On Wednesday morning, a garbage collector was hit by a bus at ACP office, Pratapnagar, situated near Barkatullah Khan Stadium in Jodhpur and died on the spot. Police officials reached the accident spot upon receiving the information and waited for a taxi to arrive at the spot. However, when the taxi failed to arrive, police moved his body to the trauma centre of MDM hospital in a garbage van owned by the civic body.
A video of the body being carried went viral on social media and drew widespread condemnation.
Dev Nagar police station officers immediately took cognisance of the matter after receiving the information. The deceased has been identified as Devram Prajapat, a resident of Bilara.
SHO Jai Kishan Soni, Dev Nagar, Jodhpur, told his officers that since the crowd at the spot had gathered, it was necessary to remove the body from there. Head Constable Rawat Singh had tried to get a taxi and when it did not arrive, the police officers had no option but to carry the body of the victim to the hospital in a garbage van owned by the civic body. Jodhpur police commissioner Navjyoti Gogoi has ordered Chakraborty Singh, SP West to investigate the matter.
