JNU VC Prof. Jagadesh Kumar appointed as new UGC chairman

Professor M Jagdesh Kumar, the VC of JNU, has now been appointed as the chairman of UGC.
Professor M Jagdesh Kumar, the VC of JNU, has now been appointed as the chairman of UGC. Kumar has been appointed as the new chairman of the University Grants Commission by the centre as per an announcement made on Friday. He would now lead all the work being done by UGC.
The UGC Chairman post became vacant in December 2021 after Professor DP Singh retired from the post. Professor M Jagdesh Kumar completed five years as the vice chancellor of JNU in January 2022 but was allowed to continue working or a few more days till a replacement could be found for his position.
Professor Kumar is widely recognised not just as the JNU VC but also for his electrical engineering work of which he is a master. He also enjoys working in nanotechnology and related areas.
He is also a professor at IIT Delhi’s electrical engineering department. The new UGC chairman was born in Mamidala, Telangana.
He has received the ISA-VSI Techno Mentor Award, and his teaching and administrative skills have brought him immense recognition.
Besides, his is an alumnus of IIT Madras after carrying out his MSc and PhD from the prestigious institute. After that, he did his post-doctoral research at University of Waterloo in Canada.
He is also a fellow at Institution of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineers, National Academy of Sciences, India, and Indian National Academy of Engineering among others.
