Jamia Millia Islamia’s Academic Council (AC) and the Executive Council (EC) are yet to give their approval for the implementation of NEP 2020.
Even though the new academic session is scheduled to start in two months, Jamia Millia Islamia’s academic and executive councils have not approved the implementation of the National Education Policy (NEP) yet. The NEP 2020 has received the varsity’s in-principle approval, but it still requires the stamp of the Academic Council (AC) and the Executive Council (EC) to be implemented.
Jamia Millia Islamia Registrar Nazim Husain Al Jafri informed that the process to approve NEP 2020 is underway while adding that it will be completed prior to July 15.
Speaking to the news agency PTI, JMI Registrar Nazim Husain Al Jafri “Though the policy is yet to be approved by AC and EC, we have begun the process for the implementation of the new policy. We are hoping to approve the policy by July 15.”
“The university has formed a committee for the NEP approval. We are likely to table the policy in Academic Council soon and later it will be passed by the EC,” he further told PTI.
Elucidating on the approval process for any change in education policy, the JMI registrar explained that a committee is generally formed which submits its report seeking recommendations from several Heads of Departments.
Subsequently, the new policy is approved by the Faculty Committee, after which it is presented to the Academic Council.
JMI Registrar Nazim Husain Al Jafri, “Following the approval by the Academic Council, the policy is sent to the Executive Council, the highest statutory body of the university.”
