Jharkhand CM Hemant Soren will seek a trust vote in the Assembly amid the looming threat of his disqualification as an MLA. All ruling coalition MLAs, who were camping in Chhattisgarh, have returned to Ranchi to attend the special Assembly session. Here are the top points.
Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren, who is facing a possible disqualification as an MLA, will seek a vote of trust during the special session of the Assembly on Monday.
The suspense surrounding Hemant Soren's future as the Jharkhand CM began after the Election Commission's (EC) opinion to Governor Ramesh Bais seeking Soren's disqualification.
Though the EC’s decision has not yet been made official, there is a buzz that the poll panel has recommended the chief minister’s disqualification as an MLA for violating electoral norms.
Here are the top points.
1) Amid a disqualification threat, Soren’s party, Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM), believes that the BJP may make a serious attempt to poach MLAs from the party and also from its ally Congress in a bid to topple the government. As many as 32 MLAs of the ruling coalition were taken on August 30 to a resort in Raipur, the capital of Congress-ruled Chhattisgarh. They have returned to Ranchi ahead of the trust vote.
