Jets GM Joe Douglas doesn’t sound optimistic about Haason Reddick resolution
NY Post
Jets general manager Joe Douglas publicly addressed the Haason Reddick holdout for the first time Thursday, and he did not paint an optimistic picture.
Douglas said he has not spoken directly to Reddick since the defensive end was in the Jets’ building April 1, and there have not been any recent conversations with Tory Dandy, Reddick’s agent.
“The ball is in their court, and whenever he is ready to come here, we can’t wait to have him,” Douglas said.
The Jets traded with the Eagles for Reddick at the end of March, hoping he could give their defense a boost as a pass rusher after they lost Bryce Huff — to the Eagles — in free agency.
Reddick was unhappy with his contract in Philadelphia, which calls for him to be paid $14.25 million this season.
The Jets offered Reddick a contract extension before the trade was made but he declined.

Of course this is not 2018, this deadline does not represent a sea change in philosophy resembling that one. But, just as seven years ago, the hierarchy — different general managers, same CEO — is not homing in at making a run at eighth place at the expense of acquiring future assets in exchange for expiring contracts.
