Jeswin Aldrin prepares for Indian Open after training in Florida, aiming to qualify for Asian championships in long jump.
Having trained in Florida, USA for the last three months, Jeswin Aldrin is now looking forward to his first event of the season—the Indian Open Meetings at the Nehru Stadium here on April 15.
The current National record holder in men’s long jump (8.42m set in March 2023) said he is excited to take part in the Chennai event and added that he was keen to make the qualification mark of 8.07m for the Asian championships scheduled in Gumi, South Korea from May 27 to 31.
“I last took part in the Inter-State meet in the city in 2022. It is a new track here. I was in Florida to learn new techniques and will want to replicate them in Chennai. My focus will on qualifying for the Asian meet,” Jeswin, who will be representing Reliance in the Chennai meet, told The Hindu on Sunday.
The 23-year-old also mentioned that the Indian Open would be good preparation for the Federation Cup to be held in Kochi from April 21 to 24.
The Indian Open here will also witness top athletes including National record holder in men’s 110m H Tejas Ashok Shirse, Amoj Jacob (men’s 400m), Jishna Mathew (women’s 200m), Shalini Singh (women’s long jump), Vithya Ramraj (women’s 200m & 400mH).
